Now summer is over it is hard to get back in to your normal routine. To keep boredom at bay, we’ve decided to find a selection of useless and odd websites that went viral on the Internet (we promise there are no cats or dogs!). Popcorn painting is a black and white website where you can watch popcorn popping for hours.

Even though the popping sound resembles a WWII bombing more than it does popcorn popping, the visual effects are truly hypnotising.

3) Annoying Cursor

Annoying Cursor pretty much does what it says on the tin – it’s really annoying. If you want to experience your mouse having a mind of its own – then visit this site.

4) The Endless Horse

As you’ve probably guessed by the URL, this website features an endless horse – no matter how long you spend scrolling. If you look close enough you can see that the horse has been drawn with keyboard characters only. Trust us, you could spend far too much time trying to reach the end.

Leduchamp is a perfectly pointless website. When landing on the page, you’ll see a spinning wheel sitting on a stool (thanks to Marcel Duchamp). All you have to do is to spin the wheel and watch its mesmerising effect. It’s as simple as that.

The concept of this website is really simple. When you arrive on the page, you hear a doorbell ring. All you have to do is open the door. Maybe once, or twice, or… wait; how many doors are there!? Let us know if you ever find out…

You can probably tell from the URL what to expect on this website. Who doesn’t want to spend their time watching bacon sizzling indefinitely without being able to eat it? To completely immerse yourself into this amazing experience, don’t forget to put your headphones on. If you manage not to drool, you can’t be human.

With 7 billion people in the world, this website will show each and every one of us. Broken down by continent, can you find yourself in the crowd?

Once again, you can probably guess from the URL what this website is all about. ismycomputeron.com is a website that provides you with an answer that you hopefully you already know – but perhaps you’d still like to double check?

10) Jello Time ♫

When you land on the Jello Time website, you’ll be presented with a big jelly dessert illustration. Use your mouse to make your jelly wiggle on a plate – the sound effects are pretty fun too, even if the whole concept is slightly bizarre.

11) Falling Falling and Trying Trying ♫

Falling Falling and Trying Trying are the exact same website but with one slight difference. The movement of the shapes & the sounds in one make you feel as though you are falling, whilst the other makes you feel as though you are flying. The websites use the same colour scheme, shapes, and almost the same sounds. By simply reversing the direction of the shapes on each website, you experience a completely different feeling. If you have vertigo or get dizzy easily, perhaps give this one a miss.

heeeeeeeey.com is another awesome, yet pointless, website. If you want to feel like you’re in a rap music video for hours and hours, visit this website and listen to someone saying “Heeeeeeeeey!” and “Hoooooooo!” on a continuous loop.

14) Toilet Paper

Always wanted to do the toilet paper gun prank? That might be fun, yes, but have you considered the mess you’ll have to clean up? Not fun anymore, right.
With Papertoilet.com, you can just infinitely unroll toilet paper as fast as you can and you don’t need to clean up afterwards. Simple and funny.

Eelslap.com is a website where you can literally slap a man with an eel. Thank you Internet.

16) Staggering Beauty ♫

Staggering Beauty doesn’t have any word to describe his craziness. All you have to do is to shake your mouse!

What can we learn about it?

Based on these 16 examples, you can see that design is not always the key factor to consider when trying to create a great viral piece. What matters is the idea. Content is the key and you need to bring your concept to life. Also, the Internet is a great place for creativity because there is no such thing as a bad idea.
